    Hospital Safety for those with Hearing Loss

    Elaine has been a member of the HLAA Board of directors since 2020 and has been President of the HLAA Chicago North Shore Chapter since 2016. She also spear- headed the Chapter’s “Panel Discussion: Hospital Safety for People with Hearing Loss Program” from 2016 to 2020. Elaine is the current chair of the HLAACommunication Access in Health Care Program. Elaine’s advocacy passion is hospital safety for those with hearing loss. In October of 2020 she spearheaded the sixth annual hospital safety program with multiple Chicago area hospitals and hospital systems. In this presentation Elaine will go over tips and suggestions for hospital advocacy, how the Chicago HLAA chapter began their Hospital Safety Program and the importance of self-advocacy. This presentation will allow you to be better prepared to advocate for yourself or for your loved one in a hospital or medical setting – You never know when you will need it.

    ​Meeting starts at 10:00 am MST

    • You can join at 9:45 am MST for a Zoom tutorial with informative instructions to make sure you can view the presentation material, the presentor, captioning, and sign language interperters at the same time.
    • Live captioning will be provided on Zoom.
    • Sign language interperters will be available on Zoo

    COVID-19 Vaccine and Individuals with Disabilities Town Hall

    We will be having a COVID-19 Vaccine and Individuals with Disabilities Town Hall virtual event on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
    We know some of you have questions about COVID-19 and the COVID-19 Vaccine. So, we reached out to our community to find experts and community members to have them share their stories and expertise with you. We hope that with this event we can answer your questions and help clarify any misunderstandings, misinformation, mistrust, or anxiety about getting the vaccine.
    The event will be done on Zoom and shown on Facebook Live. We will be posting a flyer and the link soon.

    Accessible COVID-19 Vaccination Event
    Apr 26 @ 10:00 am – Apr 27 @ 5:00 pm

    A vaccine event with full access for the Disability Community will happen on April 26 and 27 from 10am to 5pm in Albuquerque. The event specifically for our Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, Deaf Plus, and Deaf Senior Community will be on Tuesday, April 27th. It will be at the Berna Facio Professional Development Center at 3315 Louisiana Blvd NE. on the southwest corner of Louisiana Blvd and Comanche Rd. The event will be a drive-through only event – you will remain in your vehicle the whole time. There will be another vlog on the process of the drive-through soon.

    Interpreters will be on site Tuesday only, and assistive technology will be available both days, including FM Systems. The vaccine provided will be the Moderna vaccine, so you will receive an appointment to return on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 to get the booster vaccine.

    The event is open to everyone.  To participate:

    Accessible COVID-19 Vaccine Event @ Berna Facia Professional Development Center

    There will be another one-day vaccine event on Monday, May 24 at the Berna Facio Professional Development Center. If you got your first Moderna shot on April 26 or 27, you’ll get your second on May 24. The J&J vaccine will also be offered for those who haven’t been vaccinated at all yet.
